With this project, the goal was to explore the differences in each era of fashion, from the 1920s-2010s, by comparing what was considered beautiful throughout the 20th century and seeing how fashion standards change through each decade. By using the same model and getting the aesthetic of the era, I hopefully accomplished my goal of showing the standard of beauty throughout the last 90 years.
In the 1920s, it was becoming acceptable to show skin. Women would bind their chests to look more boyish, and would even cut their hair into a bob to further the boyish look. In the 1950s, it was acceptable to have big hips and breasts; the hour glass figure was the thing to have. The 1990s changed the way we think about fashion. It was not all about pretty dresses and hour glass figures. The 90s figures were minimalistic, straight, oversized, or boxy. The options were endless- from grunge to flashy fashion. We take this idea of dressing however you like in today’s era. We have the hipster look to bohemian look to the latest styles of fashion. The choice is yours.
The photos are edited to further the aesthetics of the time period. By doing this project, I hope to show the differences of the decades with fashion and to give a sense of nostalgia to the viewers of how styles used to be.
